Stressers are considered any disturbance that can trigger a stress response from the body. When the body is stressed it can have adverse effects on many aspects of one’s daily routines such as; sleep, exhaustion, emotional and physical trauma, psychological stress, eating habits, weight and much more.

Any continued stress will trigger the hypothalamic-pituitary- adrenal (HPA) axis and initiate the three stages. The first stage is the alarm stage or the fight or flight response which is described as having increased cortisol levels. The second stage is the resistance stage. This stage is the extended stress exposure after the initial fight or flight stage. The third and final stage is the exhaustion stage. When an individual gets to the exhaustion stage their cortisol levels are imbalanced with the DHEA production that results in mental and physical fatigue, nervous tension, irritability, and poor memory.
